I sing for the black and the people of this land. I sing for the red and the blood that's been shed. Now I sing for the gold of a new year for young and old. Joe Geia, Yil Lull Murundak: Songs of Freedom, is a feature documentary following the Black Arm Band, a lineup of Australia’s finest Aboriginal musicians, as they take to the road with their songs of struggle, resistance and freedom. Gathering the pioneers of black folk protest including Ruby Hunter, Archie Roach, Joe Geia, Steve Pigram, Peter Rotumah and Bart Willougby as well as some of the country’s finest contemporary musicians including Shellie Morris, Dave Arden, Kutcha Edwards, Mark Atkins, Ursula Yovich, Emma Donovan, Dan Sultan and Lou Bennett, Murundak is a vibrant cultural documentary charting the personal and political history of black resistance in Australia. Through candid observations, intimate interviews with the artists and compelling live performances, Murundak traces the journey of Indigenous struggle from the bloodied history of the past to a present born out of resilience and hope.
